UPSC PRELIMS STRATEGY

 



1. **Understand the Syllabus**: Know the UPSC Prelims syllabus thoroughly to focus your preparation on the right topics.


2. **Analyze Past Papers**: Go through previous years' question papers to understand the exam pattern, types of questions asked, and important topics.


3. **Focus on Current Affairs**: Stay updated with current affairs, especially issues related to national and international importance, government schemes, and policies.


4. **Master Basic Concepts**: Build a strong foundation in subjects like History, Geography, Polity, Economy, and Science & Technology.


5. **Practice MCQs Regularly**: Solve a wide variety of multiple-choice questions (MCQs) to improve your problem-solving skills and speed.


6. **Time Management**: Practice time-bound mock tests to improve your time management skills and ensure you can complete the paper within the stipulated time.


7. **Revision is Key**: Regularly revise important topics and concepts to retain information better and enhance your recall ability during the exam.

Note :- 👉Each paper time is 2 hours

☑️The UPSC Mains exam consists of 9 papers, out of which two are qualifying papers of 300 marks each.


☑️The two qualifying papers are:


   Paper - 1.  Any Indian Language Paper 

  Paper - 2. English Language


Note:- 

👉The papers on Essay, General Studies and Optional Subject of only such candidates who attain 25% marks in both the language papers as a minimum qualifying standard in these qualifying papers, will be taken cognizance of, for evaluation.

👉In case a candidate does not qualify in these language papers, then the marks obtained by such candidates will not be considered or counted.

☑️Qualifying Papers on Indian Languages and English


The types of questions asked are –


Essay – 100 marks

Reading comprehension – 60 marks

Precis Writing – 60 marks

Translation:

English to compulsory language (e.g. Hindi) – 20 marks

Compulsory language to English – 20 marks

Grammar and basic language usage – 40 marks

The rest of the seven papers can be written in any of the languages mentioned under the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution of India or in English.


The aim of the papers is to test the candidates’ ability to read and understand serious discursive prose and to express ideas clearly and correctly, in English and Indian language concerned. The pattern of questions would broadly be as follows :


(i) Comprehension of given passages.


(ii) Precis Writing.


(iii) Usage and Vocabulary.


(iv) Short Essays.

Optional Subject  :-
